Interview of Ebrahim Sharif on Australia’s ABC radio on February 17, 2011 (prior to his arrest):
MARK COLVIN: The rulers are Sunni, the majority of the people are Shi’ite, is this a sectarian dispute?
EBRAHIM SHARIF: No it is not. It’s a family that wants to maintain its privilege and therefore use the old colonial divide and rule, way of ruling the country. So to propagate the rule and to ensure their privileges, what they do is they make it look like it’s a Sunni versus Shi’ite by making discrimination on jobs for example against the Shiite.
